Elvis Presley died at Graceland on 16 August 1977. That means August 2027 brings the 50th anniversary, and it is shaping up to be the largest gathering of Elvis fans there has ever been.
Graceland has been building towards it for years under a programme it calls the Road to 50. If you are thinking about going, or you simply want to know what is coming, here is where things stand.
The dates
Elvis Week 2027 runs from 7 to 16 August 2027, closing on the anniversary itself. Tickets and Guest House at Graceland rooms for 2027 opened for booking well ahead of time, which tells you how much demand the estate expects.
The emotional centre of any Elvis Week is the Candlelight Vigil, held overnight from 15 into 16 August. Fans queue along Elvis Presley Boulevard and walk up the drive to the Meditation Garden carrying candles. In 2027 it will mark the half-century exactly.
What the Road to 50 has already brought
Rather than saving everything for one week, Graceland has been rolling out new tours and exhibits across several years. Recent additions include the Presley for a Day tour experience, and Elvis Presley Enterprises has said more major attractions are planned before 2027.
The 2026 calendar gives a good sense of the pattern: a limited-run display called The American Spirit of Elvis Presley opened in the Racquetball Building with the gold lamé jacket from his 1961 Pearl Harbor benefit, the suit he wore to meet President Nixon, and the giant American flag from his 1974 Mid-South Coliseum shows. Private Presley tours focusing on his army service returned in May. Graceland After Hours marked 44 years since the house opened to the public.
Expect 2027 to follow the same shape, scaled up.
Family involvement
Riley Keough, Elvis's eldest granddaughter, is sole trustee of the estate and is expected to play a visible role in the commemorations, potentially bringing several generations of the family together at Graceland.
Planning advice
- Book accommodation first, tickets second. Memphis hotel stock around Elvis Week sells out long before event tickets do.
- Decide if you want the anniversary or the quiet version. If crowds are not for you, visit Graceland in late autumn or early spring instead. Our first-timer's guide to Graceland covers the practicalities.
- Check the official calendar as it fills. Graceland publishes events in waves, so a schedule that looks thin in one month can look full two months later.
- Allow more than one day. Elvis Week is spread across the mansion, the Elvis Presley's Memphis complex and the Soundstage, and nobody does it all in an afternoon.
The other anniversary worth knowing
2026 itself was the 70th anniversary of 1956, the year Elvis broke through, and much of Graceland's programming leaned into it. If you want the background, read 1956: the year Elvis changed everything.
Marking it from home
Plenty of fans will mark the anniversary without flying to Memphis. A few ways to do it:
- A gospel record. How Great Thou Art and I Believe: The Gospel Masters are where Elvis sounds most like himself.
- A live album. Elvis Recorded Live on Stage in Memphis was taped in his home city in March 1974.
- Something for the wall, such as the Inglewood 1970s concert poster or the Undisputed King of Rock and Roll poster.
